I live in California. There's not a damn thing I can do for that guy except what I did. I didn't write him off, but hopefully via Eri I provided somebody out there where he lives a lead. This is what I can do for people I can reach.

Even Superman can't save everyone. Neither can political leaders. Nobody can. I see people out on the streets here who just don't live on the same planet we do. When I was your age, back in the Midwest, I tried to "rescue" one or two. It was not a pleasant experience for them or me. Some people just won't walk out of the dark no matter how long you stand there holding a light. You hand them a few bucks, and hope for the best.

History is littered with the smoking corpses of societies that proclaimed that they would create heaven on earth, and nobody would ever have bad things happen again. To do this, of course, required absolute control of everyone's life.

Reality is fucking cold, friend. Humanity is about warming what we can, and not forcing others to do it for you. When you've collected a few more years, you'll get it.
