3:30 a.m. I got up to find this on MSNBC. This one is not going to be so easy.
I saw an account of how this whole thing started in Tunisia with a slap. The slap heard round the world. Talk about the Butterfly Effect!
For anyone not familiar with the account of how it all started, there was a fruit vendor in Tunisia who had his scales stolen by a woman who worked for the government. He had had this done to him frequently and would have to pay to get it back. He was fed up and protested and the woman slapped him. Because of this final humiliation, he went to the agency and poured gasoline on himself and lit a match. He died in the hospital some time later. The President actually had the gall to bring an entourage and visit the man in the hospital.
Someone got on Facebook and it exploded from there.
I have been saying for some time that the same thing is going to happen in this country eventually. Corruption is corruption wherever it's found, no matter how subtle. When corporations become so powerful, they run the government and the policies and people get poorer and poorer, eventually someone will stand up and say, "Enough!" It happened in Tunisia because of corruption and the beating down of the people. It will happen here, maybe not this year or the year after. But it WILL happen eventually. The result may not be an improvement and we may descend into chaos but our society will evolve into something different than what it is now. Ruling classes should take note that their days are numbered. I probably won't be around to see it (thank God! I don't think I could take the stress of a revolution).

- I'd rather be an airhead with principles than a cement head stuck in the mire.
