There's been an update to the article, which essentially peters out now with something along the lines of, well, we don't know what's going on, but who cares? Exxon sucks.
I don't suppose you looked at the chart in the article. Total income taxes paid in 2008, $36.5 billion. Paid in 2007? $29.8 billion.
Total income taxes paid in 2008 by the entire lower 50 percent of American taxpayers? $27.8 billion.
