Maybe we screwed up

Maybe we should have gone for full-blown universal health care. The federal government provides a military for the protection of all, regardless of income. State and local government provide police services, regardless of income. Cities provide fire protection to all within city limits. Why not provide health care to all?

Some say the government can't run anything efficiently. But I wonder what the tradeoff between government bureaucracy and private sector profits would be? How much worse could it be considering today’s rate of $10,000 a day for a hospital stay?

Would the quality of care go down? An old stab at Communism was "bread for all". Well if the people are starving, that slogan is seen in a different light.

Is health care a right? I don't know, that should be up to us to decide as a nation. Do the ones that can afford insurance deserve to purchase it while the one's that can't, live in fear that their lives will be financially ruined. What must it be like to be in debt the rest of your life?

Obamacare was a half-assed, misguided attempt that did nothing but stir the caldron. It’s doubtful we’ll get another chance.
