Following Obama's speech last night there was a commercial on CNN with a Canadian woman who said she would be dead from brain cancer if she was forced to use government health care. The commercial presents a very fearful personal story of her various care being delayed and denied by bureaucrats, and how the
American system saved her. Great, I'm glad she could afford it.
The commercial begins with the narrator saying in a conspiratorial tone of voice, "Some members of Congress want a single payer Canadian style health care system..." Yes this is true, BUT a single payer system is not even on the table in these health care reform negotiations, and to imply it is, is blatant misrepresentation. The entire point of the ad is to intentionally mislead people into believing current health care reform efforts are a total government takeover. The obvious attempt to misinform made me furious.
I have long advocated giving up on bipartisanship because the other side brings nothing to the table but distortion and efforts to mislead. This ad is a perfect example of intentional deception.
