Re: It's not sinking in.

I doubt that anyone here wants the kind of socialist system you are talking about, (maybe one or two).

What they believe is that health care is an unalienable right and what they want is a universal health care system. They do not want government ownership of industry and the other things that make up a socialist system.

Yes, there is always the infamous slippery slope, but they do not see Canada, UK and Western Europe, (including the countries you mentioned), as socialist. It is just about the health care system at this point.

Pointing out the dangers to me is preaching to the choir but I am all about a decent system that we can pay for. I certainly have no problem with experimentation and perhaps trying several systems in different States would be an option. I am fearful of the adoption of a system that may be fatally flawed at the outset and get worse with every attempt to fix it in an atmosphere charged with political hubris

I am seeing outrageous misrepresentation of statistics and anecdotes by both sides. This does not usually have a satisfactory outcome. In situations like this I pipedream about a constitutional convention comprised of delegates selected by the people to take whatever time is required to come up with an intelligent solution that works for everyone. Healthcare is not a constitutional right, imo, at this time. Perhaps it should be, or perhaps the several States should address the issue, under directive of the Feds to shit or get off the pot.
