Re: Maybe we screwed up

This is probably a really naive arguement, but why not just offer government healthcare for citizens and then dock more money out of their taxes? If they value their money over their health, they can ask to have their services discontinued, but won't get government-subsided healthcare as a result.

And as for worries that our generation has lost it's chance at this, remember two things: A) times, and memories, are changing faster than ever, with more people forgetting more quickly (I mean, how many young people can you find that still remember, or know about 99 Luft Balons'? Or the Iran-Contra affiar?). Does any lobbyists or polititions bring up the Sacco and Vansetti case? Any of them that have read (or know about) The Jungle? Anyone who remembers that Hellen Keller was a sociallist in a time period when the US was warming up to that idea? That Calvin Coolidge was a white supremacist?

And B) Who says that the US will be the same way, or exist at all, forever? In the past 200 years we've had countless wars, one split, numerous disagreements between rival factions, rise and fall of different parties and ideals - we are hardly stable. It just might kick the bucket before the problem is solved.
