Re: funds.

Aww...the union donations are so tiny compared to a whole bunch of other industries combined. To be fair, OpenSecrets divides them up that way, so to boil it down would require a reporter to do actual work.

They link to that chart I use a lot. Don't forget the one that includes state donations. Add up the union money on that one. Yeah, Eri, it's the money. A big pile of it from a few concentrated sources under complete Democratic control, which is something the Democratic Party can't get from the rest of industry. You should spend a lot of time on that donations website. It's interesting, and one of my most useful sources.

"Working men and women?" How "progressive." I'd really like a definition of "work." In particular, what's the income bar where if you get above it, you aren't a "working man or woman" anymore. No matter what you do for a living.

Keep in mind that the rich are still carrying most of the tax load for what you call "working men and women." In 2008 (most recent year available) there were something like 140 million people who filed a tax return, from all income groups. Assume the number is still in that range. Divide the current $3.8 trillion budget out evenly and you get about $27,000 in Federal income and payroll taxes per taxpayer. If you paid less than that this year, a richer person is carrying your ass.
