Hydrogen gas can be compressed and transported long distances.
How about converting solar and wind power to hydrogen and then transporting it to where the energy is needed.
The hydro energy that is now wasted by many hydroelectric power plants could also be converted to hydrogen gas.
Totally renewable resource, what would be wrong with that.
