You see now? That's just fantasy. Things didn't even work like that during the dreaded "Gilded Age."
Hell, if you look at the actual history, things didn't even work that way during feudalism.
Any kind of "right to work" presupposes the destruction of the rights of those providing the jobs. Think about it. A great deal of leftist rhetoric is devoted to fogging over the real-world mechanisms of their ideology.
An aside:
What's been so amazing about these discussions over time is that simple empirical observation seems to mean nothing.
Behold, here is a nation under collectivist economics. All are guaranteed jobs, all wealth is guided by the State, and no one has too much of that wealth. Except the rulers, of course. Well, what do you know, it's a hellhole.
Lo, here is a nation largely devoted to free markets and private property. Prosperity, high standard of living, and a real live middle class.
Repeat across many, many examples. Some of them, like East and West Germany or North and South Korea are practically laboratory experiments. Cripes, the graph of economic liberty over the well-being of the citizens is practically a straight line, across different cultures, races, languages, and geographies.
And still people keep pushing socialist ideas. I have yet to completely figure this out, but I think it has something to do with faith over reason.
Sometimes the response is, "well, we don't want to go THAT far." And yet, not one - not ONE leftist or liberal I've talked to has said "this far, and no farther." More importantly, not one thinks we've gone far enough in that direction in this country. "I'm not at all like that," they say, and then keep talking "like that." Every example I post of state intrusion on our lives usually gets nods of approval. Of COURSE the Federal government should decide what light bulb I buy, or what toilet I can use. Of COURSE the government should take over the entire health care system. Or do any other damn thing it thinks up. I notice the E.U. post below got no responses. That's okay, but I hope to God it's not because liberals here looked at it and went "so?"
