I don't see any problem at all, Tom. The thread didn't start out as a flame war, and it was only late in the game when it was headed into conflict that I saw a need to act. Your contribution came early and was entirely polite and within the parameters that Justin set. In retrospect I think he made a mistake inviting posts on Space about it, but we now have a strong motivation to avoid that mistake in the future!

Flame is not really the appropriate place for this kind of discussion either, but it was better than Space. Justin and I will put up a "Community" board for future discussions of this nature.

The way I see it, the old chestnut about how you can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater is all about context. You could run around screaming "fire" in the desert and do no harm. Similarly, a conversation that's a problem in one venue is entirely appropriate in another. The ability to move entire threads is a novelty in the BBS world, where up to now a moderator could only delete messages. I think it nicely balances the need to maintain order with the broadest possible respect for free speech.
