No time to look for a link, but I've heard one reason that the AIDS virus is so rampant in Africa is because of a commonly held myth among the population. The myth is that AIDS can be cured by having sex with a virgin. AIDS infected men are raping young girls trying to be cured, and instead are spreading the disease out of control.
