Since we're on the Flame board, I'll be completely honest and say I rarely read Bowser's posts... for precisely the same reason I rarely read ebnelson's. However, for precisely the reasons you give, I appreciate his presence and persistence here.

I think the appropriate phrase is "stalking horse".

And, even though this is the Flame board... a note of appreciation about Tom, too. Yes, he can still be infuriating at times - but much less so than he once was, and I don't believe that's due to my stand on issues changing. He's learned some manners, as well as the lesson intended by all of us "lefties" abandoning the place (the phrase I used in my flame then was "circle jerk", btw - nothing so euphemized as 'fanny patting').

Tom also looks a lot better than he once did by comparisons to the likes of Lee, who is probably at least as much of an embarrassment to the right wing of this bunch as Frank suggested Bowser was to "our side".
