have mercy on the pooch

The poor guy's taking a beating in here. I think I might have to make a call to the ASPCA!! :-)

He's got a heck of a snarl to him, but I think underneath it all he's just one of those big friendly old mutts you see laying in the sun on a porch.

I certainly don't agree with him on everything, far from it, but I read everything he posts exactly because of the fact that we don't agree on everything. I get from him a perspective that keeps my feet on terra firma.

During the first Gulf War, I became a fairly mindless, rah-rah, go-get-em-and-bomb-em-if-you-can't type, and I don't want that to happen again. It's not an attitude that's in touch with reality, I don't think.

We may very well have to resort to massive violence to unseat Saddam and his cronies, but I want to keep firmly in mind that war is an abomination no matter what the aim--that war is the ultimate human failing.

I'll pray for our men and women in uniform, and hope with all my heart for their speedy and decisive victory. But my feeling is that if I ever lose sight of the fact that war is immoral, that it's a zero-sum game with devastating consequences, then I've lost part of my soul.

Bowser, Lindy, Mary Anne, Raoul, Robert and the others...without those guys slapping me upside the head now and again, I'd be in some danger of starting to beleive my own drivel.
