<There's a way to slice this Gordian Knot: Establish a genuine world government. One which mirrors the time-tested design of American government, with proportional citizen representation balanced against governmental representation, and executive and judicial branches.
Of course, the practical problem is that we're badly outnumbered by the rest of the world. Do we have the courage to follow our principles when we might find ourselves disadvantaged by a fair and principled system of world government?
Hand the savages the guns? "You outnumber us so your will must be done?"
I don't think so!
Mary Anne fears an empire. Her fears come too late. America is an empire. Whereas legions and roads held Rome together, Capitalism and overwhelming economic and technological prowess is the binding force which makes nations subserviant to the US.
The automobile, airplane, helicopter, telephone, machine gun, nuclear power, nuclear weapons - all these and many more are the byproduct of America.
America made the world modern - because of freedom and capitalism and intelligence.
The left always falls back on the failed collective model! Global competitition is what fuels, and yes is mandatory for, progress!
One world will be like the EU - where some nations do all the work and the tiny unproductive nations are just along for the ride, while some leftist pseudo intellectuals do their best to recreate the Soviet Union in Western Europe with Brussels as a poor man's Moscow!
It's failing now as we speak - millions unemployed, hate, racism and anger rising daily - awaiting a spark to create another european conflict.
No one world is not a world made equal - it is unequals put under one yoke. Eventually, like in USSR, the ones working realize they don't have to, and soon everyone sits on their hands. Then the union goes bankrupt in economic ruin slowly, its inhabitants cruising above the poverty line for decades until some new mind with new ideas gets followers and overthrows the union.
My 10 cents,
