I'm baffled

I don't see the logic in your objections, SDAI-Tech1 [geez your moniker is awkward to type!].

Doesn't America have the best system of government going? Why would it not work scaled up to be a world government?

Wouldn't all the flaws you cite in the idea of an American-style world government already be present in the existing American model?*

I wonder whether there would've been grounds for the American Revolution if the colonists had been fully represented in the British Parliament? Instead, Britain dealt with America at arms-length, as a colony...much as Bush proposes to deal with the modern world. All power, no accountability. Look how the British strategy turned out.

Instead of a classic imperial strategy, what if we pursued an "embrace and extend" strategy? Make Afghanistan the 51st state, Iraq the 52nd. Isn't that consistent with American ideals? That'd put some real substance behind Bush's throwaway line "if you ain't with us, yer agin us". OK, let's let 'em really be with us.

At the end of the day we'd have organically grown a global America. Not by imposition, but by inclusion.

*--It's failing now as we speak - millions unemployed, hate, racism and anger rising daily - awaiting a spark to create another european conflict.

Up until I read the second-to-last word, I wasn't sure if you were talking about America!
