Has anyone ever noticed how the Left seems to notice only the casualties, death, and pain caused by American action? Regardless of motives?
The million or more killed by Saddam means nothing. The million or more that would be killed and tortured under the next decades of the rule of Saddam and Sons also apparently means nothing. The eighty million dead on the altar of Marx: irrelevant. Anyone harmed by anyone other than the U.S.--not important. And hey, there weren't any reporters taking pictures of these things and wiring them back in real time to "rub our noses" in it. Just haunted memories of refugees and escapees. And what do they know, right?
Over many posts I have clearly established that the only alternative to war on Iraq was to keep Saddam in power in perpetuity. Not one person-ONE--has come up with a credible alternative that would have ended his reign of terror without military force. A few have come up with some silly ones.
The Iraqi regime is currently trying to hold power in the face of overwhelming military force scant miles from their centers of power. The idea that any form of diplomacy, sanction, ruling, inspection, phone call, bribe, or nasty letter from the U.N. could cause this regime to give up power, or even alter its murderous behavior, is bloody idiotic.
If you support leaving him in there, then you support leaving him in there. Fine. At least that's a logical position, and one that can be argued. Stop trying to fog the issue by pretending there are other routes. They don't exist.
It has been pointed out that the primary reason for going into Iraq was to remove a threat to America and its allies, and that the freeing of Iraq's people was a fortunate benefit. Apparently you are now basing your entire antiwar position on the thesis that our sole purpose is to benefit the people of Iraq, and that because we are killing and hurting some of them, that the entire effort means nothing, and the only alternative is to go home and leave them to the shredders, ropes, and guns. Hey, no skin off your ass, right? Literally.
At least you finally dropped that tired old "blood for oil" bullshit.
