Mary Anne is 100 percent right in that the coyotes are the market's response to a perceived need. A free society would have open borders--and no coyotes--but a truly free society would also not have the massive social safety net that draws many--not all, but many--of these illegal immigrants.
That's the easy, theoretical situation. The current real-world situation is more complicated, involving the mixed economy, maintaining local industries in the face of cheap competition, other governments subsidizing their industries to undercut ours, and many other factors. But we still shouldn't lose sight of the basic principles involved here.
As for capitalism being to blame for Enron and the rest, well, no one said a capitalist society would be free of crime. But the alternative is to have criminality and looting institutionalized into the government, like it is in socialist nations.
