The pork is irrelevant.
Again:
Oh, get real. Like the government has never cobbled up an artificial "need" (sometimes created by its own bungling)
e.g. the bungling lack of cooperation pre and post 9/11. (but leave me out of the conspiracy theories...)
and then proposed some gigantic, expensive program to "solve" it.
i.e. the DHS.
Usually involving a new agency or two, and always resulting in more power to the centralized government and less power to the citizen.
i.e. the DHS and the "Patriot Act"
This is then enthusiastically shoved down our throats, accompanied by sincere and fervent lies about how much it will help and how much it will cost.
See just about everything Bush has said on this....
Yet you dont seem to recognize that this was applied by a Republican President. You fulminate against Dems but give Repubs a free ride?
The DHS and the "Patriot Act" should be giving your libertarian mentality screaming fits and sweaty nightmares. I dont understand why they aren't.
Cheers,
Tony
P.S. I also think that the essential coordination of various security agencies--which had been firmly split apart by Congressional action--probably didn't really need a new government department. I could be wrong.
For once, I dont think you are. :-)
