We discussed that above. That is exactly what Man has done, define "God" in whatever way meets Man's needs.
However, Science has impinged upon freewill to an extreme degree. It turns out that our personalities are determined genetically to some degree as are traits such as homosexuality and chemical dependency.
A lot of experience with people has led me to believe we have the illusion of freewill, while in practice most of us are more or less predictable, usually more. And the more predictable people are the more invested we are in the idea of our freewill. I may well be wrong, but in practice it works for me.
