AIDS

AIDS is a tragedy in the US but in africa it is an apocalypse... It has set the continent back several generations. Imagine 2/3 of the adult population dying a long expensive death...orphans forced to fend for themselves.
The plague in europe in the 13th century was quickly recovered from since the wealth freed up allowed a renaissance to occur... In Africa there isn't wealth... This plague has ensured many more years of petty dictators and pain for the continent.

And YES AIDS is preventable but blaming the victim does nothing to help. In the US we have spent a lot trying to educate about aids....but the kleptocracies in africa havent spent the money (that they dont really have anyway) to try to educate their populace.

If You feel the need to blame someone, then blame the leaders...Sure some victims made poor choices, In the US most people that get aids TODAY have had lots of information thrown at them and ignored it. But we can choose to blame them or we can make the commitment to try and help.
Blaming people costs nothing in the short term...It feels good and reassures us that they "got what they asked for" ....
but after all that there is the disaster that follows... The world will be a lot more unstable in the next century because of this virus...

In conclusion...Yes, a lot of the people that get AIDS should have known better, but , worldwide, there are a lot of humans that are dying because they just didnt know...
ANYWAY the point is people are falling dead in great numbers, there is no chance that I will catch this disease but I WILL have to deal with the results...WE should stop trying to blame and start trying to address the disaster...
