You have quite good arguments.
Though I live in Belgium, I have been a member of the Planetary Society and the British Interplanetary Society and still am a member of the National Space Society and became one of the Mars Society.
I quit from TPS because their brochure wasn't much and especially, they had very little interest in our Moon (just a dusty rock).
I stopped the BIS subscription (after 11 years) because their magazine wasn't more informative than what's available on the net and they wouldn't allow me to renew the subscription through the internet.
The Mars Society is new but I'm wondering about their narrow goal which is Mars and only Mars.
The NSS: well, I visited their HQ during a trip to the US in 1991, chatted with Lori Garver and others; they can organize trips to visit the KSC when a Shuttle is being launched.
Apparently, there is a problem with authors of articles in Ad Astra who don't get paid reasonably on time. The problem with Ad Astra, for me, is that the magazine arrives 6 weeks after it is issued in the US and most of the articles are outdated.
However, what I always liked from the NSS is that it allows different points of views to be expressed, often conflicting. There is a lot of hype, sometimes, but the hype changes too, according to the timeframe. At least the NSS doesn't neglect the Moon.
