I doubt very much that optimism has ever driven any obsession. Such as defense is generally used to brush away reminders of reality, as Hitler did when discussing the Eastern Front with his generals.
Personsally, it is amusing to watch people with pretty severe delusions making any statement about anything, little less watching them making judgements about their own mental states (or those of others) and reality, such as "pessimism" or "optimism".
