Re: Bonestell's most famous painting

I have been slowly trying to get most of Bonestell's published space work. While his stuff may be far from the reality - he captures something beyond what he pictures.

When I see his picture, beyond the landscape I see...

Joy of exploration...

The wonder of adversity...

Unlimited appreciation of the wonders of space...

That will remain even if all the details are wrong - and is something Bonestell put of himself in his work. I think that is why his images are still collectible after nearly half a century and satellite and probe imagery. They capture the essence of space exploration.

That is the same reason illustrators are much better in children's stories and advertisements than is real photography. Real photography seldom captures the mind and spirit of the author as does illustration. One of my favorite illustrators is Arthur Rackham. More talent in his little pinky than most artists today have in their whole body.

I would get into a lecture of frequency relationship - and how illustrators can impinge frequencies into their work which all who see it attune to...but I will save that for another day ;-)

Best wishes,

Raoul
