Re: The illusions of Mars

<...We also have the institutional delusions of NASA. You have to ask why they do not do fundamental research like applying the new computer image processing techniques to the Viking data, or counting the craters on Mars.
Part of the answer has to lie in bureacratic self-preservation, as the data recovered would simply undermine the delusions on which NASA was founded.

You'll have to pardon me on this if you've gone over this before, since I have made a habit of avoiding the various Mars pissing contests that evolve here:

"White!"
"Blue!"
"WHITE!!"
"BLUE!!"
"Boogerhead!"
"Double Boogerhead!"
"I'm rubber you're glue (etc. etc. etc.)"

But exactly what big secret is NASA trying to hide here that would undermine them? Please tell me it has nothing to do with large, glass cities... ;)
