You got it perfectly right - 'frequency relationship'. The sad tear-jerker moment in a film, the satisfaction of revenge on the 'bad' guy in the end - all these are engineered to hit specific and more universal chords.

These boards - appeal to those who like to debate and pontificate...;-)
One way of looking at it is we're all just a bunch of waveforms harmonically drawn or repelled to things in our environment.
