Space/Science » in reply to Warning of Confusion Over Creationism . . .

Re: All that matters is Doctrine

This is a space bbs, so I probably don't have to explain why I consider mankind to be completely bereft of any potential to grow or manage our affairs properly. We are not going anywhere. We will still be here in 10,000 years, scraping out a living on the same planet. That said, it may not matter one bit whether we teach our children evolution or creationism.

In my experience "truth" means different things to different people. For some a bald-faced lie is the truth. For others truth is totally psychological, whatever makes us feel good. For still others truth is pure science. Whether we like it or not a lot of people are not geared for interpreting "truth" in terms of mathematical "correctness", at least not all the time. For example, many of the debates that I have participated on this bbs have followed a familiar pattern: they start out with a proposition or speculation, and then the other people start criticizing it. The debate gets steadily more technical until the winner emerges as the one who is the most "correct" or "believable", and who communicates most clearly. So maybe we should allow a mix of ideas in schools, and let the children decide who is more believable.
