Re: Thinking too hard

(Bugs Bunny doing Jerry Colonna): "hmmmmmm - could be!"

Thing is, I liked the Progenitor Scenario... and the episode in which it (and a holographic recording) appears in full-blown form. You may remember it: beginning with a legacy from Picard's archaeology mentor, and leading Enterprise, a Klingon cruiser and a Romulan warbird on a merry chase for the puzzle pieces.

There's an SF short from the late '60s (author's name forgotten) called "If All Men were Brothers, Would You Let Your Sister Marry One?"... The Progenitor scenario does two things for the universe of Star Trek: it affirms Roddenberry's canon that All Sentients Are Brothers, thereby strengthening the use of relations among the Terrans, Klingons, Romulans, Bajorans, Cardassians, et alii as allegory; it 'explains away' the seeming paradox of species with billions of years of independent evolution and parsecs of separation being able to crossbreed and produce 'viable' offspring. In other words, typical ST fabricated 'science'.

Don't get me wrong - I loved the shows, except for the Original Series. I was also quite impressed with Farscape, though I was ony able to see its first season. Anything the Henson crew does rates high with me... and that's the key to their Real Aliens: they're not human actors, they're Muppets. Never got into B5 - I think its schedule conflicted with DS9...

Dan's right: the topic of "intelligent design" leads one immediately to think of Science Fiction - a welcome chance to relax!
