PS On Economic Disasters

There were some things about Kyoto that bothered me and I never studied it in detail because it was obvious the political climate in the US would not allow us to accept it. However, I think the predictions of disaster were highly overblown. The same cries of dispare have met most major environmental regulation and more recently international agreements such as NAFTA. NAFTA was a disaster for old noncompetitive industries and many of their jobs did fly south. However it coincided with one of the strongest economic periods in history for high job growth, real wage growth, productivity growth and low inflation. Excuse me if I am a little skeptical of economic disaster claims. Far more jobs were created after NAFTA than were lost, and our southern neighbor became much more stable and economically viable.

I'm pretty sure that if Kyoto cost jobs in some industries, it would have been at least partially offset by jobs created to make products to meet Kyoto requirements.

Mark
