But we know the models are poor

Quite specifically, everyone who is any good at climate modeling hits the effects of

1) volcanic activity, and
2) impact events

and that's why they often participate in the Cambridge Conference.

Now these folks are familiar with the field, and a good number of them also share Dr. Peiser's scepticism about claims of the effects of CO2.
Climate may be unusual right now: we are going through a solar maxima, and Freon use has also blown a hole in the ozone.

Nondoubt many countries would like the US to reduce its consumption of the world's limited oil supply, and this woudl be good policy in my opinion, but suffering $1,000,000,000,000's in economic disruption based on our current understanding of CO2 effects does not seem proper.

In sum, I think the President made the right decision in calling for more research before this painful course of action is pursued; even more so since this research will also help in firming up our impact estimates; I am very much in favor of spending money on it.

On the other hand, I disagree with the President on reducing oil use, and I agree with those who think we should be pursuing oil efficiency immediately.
