Goofy and goofier.

“In 2001 the National Science Foundation surveyed 1,500 people nationwide and found that 77% believed that "increased carbon dioxide and other gases released into the atmosphere will, if unchecked, lead to global warming ..." Yet half of those polled believed that humans and dinosaurs co-existed on Earth, despite the scientific fact that the dinosaurs went extinct tens of millions of years before the earliest hominids appeared. Worse, only 22% of the respondents understood what a molecule - for example, carbon dioxide - is.”

And probably most of those folks voted for GWB and Cheney. (Figuring that the more ignorant would tend to vote that way. Not a ditch I'd die in, but a lot of them undoubtedly did vote R.) Goofy.

If one saw a truck bearing down on them, they might figure it would brake. After all, they usually do. As it gains speed and comes closer, they can still believe that. There will come a time when a prudent person would move. The truck still might stop, but it would be reasonable to do what they could to protect themselves.

Or, they could rant and rave about someone saying the truck was going 70 mph when in fact it was only going 53. They could carry on about how they were being lied to, the press was deliberately trying to make their situation look more precarious than it really is. A truck going "only" 53 clearly isn't as deadly as a truck going 70. Goofier.
