Re: Are You Serious?

The Earth’s climate has never stayed the same. This is a hard concept for us humans to grasp because we resist change. This is why people build homes on barrier islands.

Here in Texas, the sea level has risen and fallen so much, that we have tropical seashells mixed with coral in the hills of Nacogdoches, and 200 miles out at sea are submerged ancient shorelines.

The Earth has handled her continents ripped apart, impact strikes, massive volcano eruptions, and early life changing its atmosphere. I suspect she can handle man as well. I am not saying we should turn the place into a garbage dump.(doing so would spell our doom- but the Earth would recover once we were gone) We should protect our environment and conserve our resources as much as possible, but we shouldn’t jump on the environmental scare bandwagon and take drastic measure with out the scientific data and facts to back it up.

Right now, we just don’t know what impact us humans are having on the environment. Volcanoes spew far more CO2 into the air than our activity. The ocean scrub out most of it. I have heard scientist arguer that the Earth is headed for another ice age, while others say a runaway green house effect- we just don’t know. We need more data. Trying to stop global warming may lead us to an ice-age.

I foresee a day, centuries from now, when humans will know how to control the Earth’s (and Venus and Mars) climate. Doing such a thing will require a vast increase on knowledge of how our weather works. For now, we just need to keep learning, and walk with caution.
