Maybe you could speculate on the concept of "piping" the laser over 1000's of miles in underground fiberoptic lines, with anti-missile laser turrets spaced every 500 miles along the coastline?
Could Japan or Israel do this to protect against launches from neighboring countries without having to incorporate the laser into an aircraft? Would this be lower tech? Could you get away with fewer laser modules, and have more fuel on the ground than in the air, i.e. more than 20 shots ?
