Phrasing a statement as a question. That one seems to have gone over my head. I assume you mean, I am having a glass of water, with inflection that makes it sound like a question. I think I get it, but it must not be prevalent in Lower Alabama since it doesn't sound familiar.

I am familiar with the like thing but I don't hear it much from my grandsons, maybe I am not listening. I recall when my daughters were teens they used the word went instead of said. "So she 'went', (insert teen observation) and then I 'went', (insert teen observation)". It absolutely drove me up a wall when they did it and I never missed a chance to correct them. What is the aversion to the word "said"? The good news is they out grew it and apparently so did the kids that did not get corrected. I guess there is hope the affinity for "like" will also pass.
