Re: Snob, and proud of it.

I can't understand it. Somehow, speaking unintelligibly and in a fashion that is perceived by most as uncouth and barbaric is somehow considered a form of social protest. It makes no sense, REAL black revolutionaries, like MLK, Malcom X, Eldrige Cleaver, H Rap Brown, Huey Newton and Angela Davis all spoke beautifully articulated English. Even if you opposed their message, they were powerful speakers with a clear voice anyone could understand.

As for the Latin, the Industrial Revolution eventually made a classical education obsolete. The Machine needed techs and managers. Latin was an elective in my high school, but I took French, instead. I thought it might help me get a better job.

Its part of a long-standing trend. The same thing is happening today to all the liberal arts, the withering away of a tradition of scholarship that stretches back to the middle ages, replaced by lunatic disciplines like event planning, real estate investment counseling and hospitality management. I even heard that there's a school somewhere that offers a Master's in Fashion Journalism. Society wants the schools to teach people what they need to know, not how to think. In fact, society doesn't even want you to know there is a difference.
