Re: Cops of the world

<A substantial fraction of those folks were Jews, forced out - of Europe, anyway - partially because they were never considered citizens of the land they were born on in the first place; quite the opposite: they were accused of having loyalty only to each other and the Holy Land. When they got to America, they were - eventually, and not without difficulty - assimilated as full citizens with unquestioned loyalty. While asking them if they want to live in the Old Country, ask the same question about Israel. You'll get the same answer. In other words, Buck's comment about "returning to their homeland" is pretty damn silly. For the vast majority of Diaspora Jews, their homeland is precisely that: the land where they were born.

Your paragraph is inconsistent. You begin by saying Jews were never fully assimulated into their nations of birth in Europe, then end by saying their homeland is the land they were born. At any rate, certainly most Jews and others consider the land they are born as their homes, but given the centuries of pograms and persecution Jews suffered and considering they DID recreate their ancient nation in it's old location, your comments about them never wanting to return to their homeland are pretty silly. Perhaps I should have said "ancient homeland" to be more accurate.

Besides, my original comment was that palestinians (at least SOME) would still want to have their original homeland even if they were integrated into other arab societies. To think otherwise is not realistic. Most mexican nationals and millions of mexican americans still think of CA, AZ, NM, NV, and TX as mexican territory (have you heard of the azlan movement?)despite the fact the only owned as and independent nation for approximately 30 years while the US has own it for approx 160 years.
