Time for all the Sci-Fi prattle about AI and robotics to get called to the fore. Given big DOD bucks, maybe, just maybe, MIT and CMI could build some remote control tunnel crawlers to "vist" the target rich environment of underground Afganistan. A side benefit of such developments would be a boom in the US economy as finally, useful robotics were available for a variety of messy tasks.

By no means here am I saying that a nice safe war is gonna happen. Unfortunately, Vietnam-era tunnel crawlers (people) are gonna be needed. And other wet work, ground truth combatents. My best to them.
