Oh really...
What killed any chances of a turn-around in our energy habits was Detroit, remember, that was the era of the muscle car...
"Little GTO, you really lookin' fine...
Three deuces and a 4-speed, and a 389..."
And by that time, we were already a net importer of petroleum.
They spent millions marketing automotive penis enancement to American teenagers, and made billions selling it to them.
And what Left destroyed nuclear power? Three Mile Island finished off nuclear power, in 1979. But what really killed nuclear power was the failure of the industry to finance waste processing and fuel recovery, and the failure of the government to spend tax dollars to do it.
By the early 70s it was clear there would be no nuke waste processing in America, and that the breeders Eisenhower's Atoms for Peace people were counting on to take over after the Uranium ran out would not be ready to shift us over to a Plutonium economy in the 21st century. (Yeah, that was the plan. They had set up this whole program in the late 50s when they realized the oil was running out.) And have you conveniently forgotten the Green faction was pro-nuke until it became clear how irresponsible the industry was.
Besides, your man Tricky Dick was in charge from 69-74 and neither LBJ, Ford nor Carter was particularly anti-nuke--and certainly not Reagan..
Tom, you can't blame everything bad that has ever happened in the multiverse on this imaginary leftist conspiracy that you have fabricated that allegedly is out to rule the world (by destroying America???). It ain't necessarily so.
Maybe, just maybe, the greed and short-sightedness of American capitalism had just a little bit to do with it too. After all, it happened on their watch.
