You noticed Japan's reactors have dropped out of the news? I'm still following the recovery of the nuclear systems. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has yet been killed or even suffered any serious ill effects due to radiation. And this in the midst of a huge natural disaster that has actually killed thousands. I consider this a pretty good acid test of a near-obsolete nuclear system under severe stress.
Any discussion of the safety issues have to keep this in mind.
