Raoul,
I find your heartening (not hawkish) comments here refreshing and optimistic.
There are days when I am gung-ho myself (because of fear), but then I take a different perspective and look around me to see what has worked elsewhere.
Intimidation and humiliation DO work, but at the cost of revenge and a lack of respect.
SDAI's post above SOUNDS good......this imperialism that will wipe out the bad in all terrorists.......but even though it sounds good, how possible and how effective will it be?
There are over 2 million radical Islamists now in over 23 countries. How do we stop them? Where do we draw the line on the killing and the 'routing out?"
I will use a case here at home.
Let's look at handling our teenagers.
Unruly. Wiley. Willful. Know everything and will try everything.
How do you handle it?
Look at the successful teens and their families. What do they have in common?
Tom, I wish to address this with you because I know you have some young teens that soon will be spreading their wings, and I remember some comment you had earlier about how you were going to handle them. May I suggest that you allow them to make mistakes, support them, tighten the leash and let them live with the consequences of their actions? Don't withdraw your support or concern EVER........although you may let them live in darkness with their actions
for extended periods of time.
Intimidating them, humiliating them, preventing them from making ANY decisions will just bring you misery and lack of respect.
now, I know you"ll shoot back that young girls have nothing in common with murderous terrorists living in the 15th century, but..........
Think about it.
