I've never really dwelled on my family's lineage. Someone traced our first ancestor to come to these shores back to 1654. Big whoopee. Just because my ancestors have been here for almost 350 years doesn't make me any more of an American than a naturalized citizen like my wife. It took more courage for her to immigrate to a new country than for me to be born here.
Like many Americans whose family has been here for a long time, I have a lot of different nationalities in my ancestry. I know of British, French, probably some German, and Cherokee (great great grandmother). Basically, I'm you're typical American mongrel. I don't dwell on my ancestry very much simply because if Europe was such a big deal, why did so many people feel the need to leave?
