Just showing you that it was published in the Telegraph, that well known bastion of left-wingers.........
The article Dennis posted was a repost in an Aussie paper. Kind of deflates your point.
So we Brits are only "democratic" rather than democratic? Since when?
What is so difficult to understand about the US electoral system? Even a Brit can count up electoral college votes - it aint that difficult. The only thing wrong with this article is the title - "Did Al Gore win after all?" since it is blindingly obvious he did not.
A better title is "Did more people express their preference for Al Gore over George Bush in the voting booth?", or even "Should Al Gore have won".
People can count and recount any way they like, it's over and we all have to deal with that. (IMHO, it was a statistical dead heat, but unfortunately the constitution does not allow for that.....)
Shaking off our imperialism? Sorry, Dan, we shook that off after Suez and WW2. One lasting and benficial effect of that old imperialism is that Brits are better informed and have a more global world view than the myopic populace and media of the US.
And since when did you automatically discount "undisclosed sources" in any of your postings?
Cheers,
Tony
