<I searched all of the 4 major U.S. networks and there was no mention of civilian casualties in the headlines except for the 16 Christians killed in Pakistan.

That's interesting. Most of my stuff I listed came off a rather limited source, with the same author on two articles...maybe I'm dealing with a rather small concentration of this attitude on the Net. One can hope.
