Re: Just sayin'

So let's put it in simple terms then. Except for number four, the other points are essentially true (in a moral vacuum). Let's start with the first three: Taxes (which is essentially what the first three points are talking about) have existed as long as there has been civilization (something to think about!). And also as along as humans have been building nations, nations have had social goals. Maybe that's to conquer the fertile valley in a neighboring nation. Maybe it's to build a highway system or a port or a hospital.

And maybe it's to make sure that the poorest members of a society do not starve or die of curable illness because of lack of means. Even if that means taking a little more from some who are so vastly better off.

Yeah, the injustice I know.. But the wealthy owe much of their privilege to the very existence of laws and civilization -- even more than anyone else. Without government their wealth would be looted and their factories burned. In fact, nearly every form of business and commerce in the modern world would not exist without Laws and Civilization: In other words, GOVERNMENT.

The point being, WE ALL HAVE A SOCIAL CONTRACT, even rich people. So if taking a little more from people with so much to help those who have so little is a social goal, IT'S OKAY.

Four actually makes little sense. Money taxed and spent by the government is subject to the same money multiplier as money spent in the private sector.

Five is a scare tactic. Yeah, as if slightly raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans amounts to everyone giving up on the system.
