Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger reacted by rejecting US participation and on April 10, 1984 the US Senate voted eighty-four to twelve to condem the US participation in this mining.
Either the CIA actions were kept unknown to the Dept. of Defense, or the honorable cabinet member lied to the press in his statement."

Now, what do YOU think?
Caspar Weinberger WAS the Secretary of Defense!

Some people will use any excuse to make money.
And Communism.....or the "threat" of Communism was good enough for Oliver North, it HAD to be good for anyone who would PROFIT from it.
AND.........
Weinberger was the Director and Vice President of Bechtel Corporation, conveniently a large defense contractor. He had plenty of inflated budget requests from '81 through '87 which got through Congress in spite of outrageous overcharges resulting in record deficits. He was also responsible for the black ops aviation unit "Seaspray" which provided support for the CIA.

No, no, no ....I just don't know......
