An anti-fraud election law with a requirement for first time voters who register by mail to show some proof of ID has received the expected turd-in-a-punch-bowl reception from Democrats, which would probably see a third of their electorate vanish like a frozen hydrogen brick in a blast furnace if only legitimate voters could vote.
An amendment quickly offered by Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer of New York and Ron Wyden of Oregon would allow voters to guarantee their identities by a simple signature, matched by records on file with state or local election officials. This is, of course based on the somewhat dubious theory that only a legitimate voter is physically able to write a name in a blank.
The proposed bill, without the tooth-pulling amendment, would require first-time voters who register by mail to show photo identification or other proof of identity when they show up to vote. The measure would also accept utility bills, bank statements, government checks, paychecks or any government documents with a name and address to prove identification.
Apparently the Democrats have a huge constituency of "voters" they are trying to protect which have access to none of these things. No drivers license. No utility bills. No paychecks. No documents with names and addresses.
Any guesses as to who these Democratic "voters" might be? I have a few ideas.
It is worth noting that I have to come up with documents proving my name and address to get a frigging library card in my town. Would it be so tough to ask as much of a new voter?

- I'd like to see the voter registration databases purged
- "voter fraud" and "democrat get out the vote" synonymous?
