It is somehow notable that the US government under GWB and Ashcroft would prosecute the murderer of two women because the women are gay?Is that worthy of Ashcroft calling a press conference?
The answer must be that he is so strained to find an example of what might be tolerance he has to call the press. So, he took the brave move of announcing this Justice Department prosecution.
What's the risk of this courageous move? Not votes. He knows that Falwell and Robertson don't have any other place to go.
Maybe it wasn't such a brave move. Maybe it was just grandstanding.
