Anyway, the misconception of "media events" is not so much a matter of political “grandstanding” as it is a matter of media “fixation.” The world's most powerful nation's attorney general does not "make" the news. The world's most powerful nation's attorney general "is" the news. This being the case, if Ashcroft were to unexpectedly blow his nose in public, it would be a media event.
