Re: It buys us fear and respect of our awesome capabilities

You, and people who think like you, are freekin nuts.
You can't see past the problems it will create.
Taking out Saddam because of convenience.......

They'd better wait on the UN inspectors.

Sadam is well liked in his country, as evidenced by the birthday celebrations that were televised on CNN today. If we nuke him, or go in and de-stabilize and tear up his country; we will create more hatred and revenge for the United States. It will put us in a more perilous position to BE attacked by any middle eastern nation, or by their loyal supporters.

How arrogant of us to think we can change "regimes".
Wouldn't that be analagous to the Chinese trying to change the regime here in America?

>The US has the.....intent of overthrowing the regime of Saddam Hussein. And now we'll show that we can, and we will, execute the mission, despite any and all opposition.

Man, you sound like this will be as easy as taking a few bugs off a windshield with some Windex and paper towels.
Obviously, you haven't thought this one through.

>One could argue the wisdom of such unilateral action,...

No freekin sh**!

> but it'll definitely send a very powerful message - America is unchallenged as the world's sole superpower, and can and will act in the national interest despite any foreign opposition to it.

Tell me what our "national Interest" with Iraq is again?
We are not the only world's "super power", and we change allies according to current economic interests, and we are resented the world over because of this.
Any action against Sadam will be seen the world over as the open hostility it is; and with the recent push by Sharon against the Palestinians, this will be seen as further agression to their culture and it will CREATE more trouble, hatred and revenge.
And American soldiers shouldn't be put in harms way except for the defense of the US and her citizens.
