No, no, no. Fear and respect in the manner in which you are using it is for schoolyard bullies. The US is a great power, and everyone knows it. Arrogance does not breed respect. If you respect arrogant people you are a pandering syncophant, the kind of person who believes everything authority says, any nonsense the government feeds you.
What we will get is disrespect and disdain. We will get what you would give anyone who could break the laws, both written and of decency, with impunity. We will get the kind of respect you might give the son of the chief of police who speeds up and down your street with loud pipes, never getting a ticket. Some of you are so afraid of authority you would think that's all right. Some of aren't quite that conforming.
Those notions of "fear and respect" are generally gone by the time civilized children who aren't home schooled get to the 6th grade. Hard to respect bullies. You may fear them. So what.
